Abwab 2012

The old quilt doors welded together are a cohesion of force, representing a social fabric that is increasingly disintegrating into the abyss of individual ambition. This social fabric can only be held together and protected by reconnecting with the beauty and the aesthetics of the everyday as well as the unwanted. After the discovery of oil, and with the amount of money coming into the country, there has been a lot of investment in the development of Saudi Arabian infrastructure. This not only changed the appearance of the country but also how it is experienced.

When an object can no longer operate as was originally intended, a new function through adaptive reuse may be the only way to preserve the heritage of its significance as in the installations ‘Abwab’.
